Sanctioned by the American Canoe Association

What is Rendezvous?

Rendezvous (n. pl.) rend-dez-vous (-vooz)

  1. A meeting at a prearranged time and place.
  2. A prearranged meeting place, especially an assembly point for troops or ships
  3. A popular gathering place

tr. & intr. v. rend-dez-voused, ren-dez-vous-ing

  1. To bring or come together at a rendezvous

Peeps, believe it or not it’s here again! Yep, it’s time for all the chapters of the Arkansas Canoe Club to come together for a common purpose on a weekend in September. That purpose? Rendezvous, of course! Once again we’ll have a lot of fun and expose people to what a wonderful organization the ACC truly is. Activities such as rolling clinics, boat-ball, surfing at Rockport, Hometown Throwdown, canoe jousting, kids’ activities, float trips and more are on the schedule for this year. Participate in as many or as few of the planned activities as you want, or just spend a lazy day hanging around in a hammock or swimming in beautiful Lake Catherine. The Rendezvous is a little bit like a family reunion, only a whole lot more fun. So, don’t miss out this year ‘cause it’s gonna be bigger and better. Grab your family and your boats and come on down to Camp Couchdale for a little bit of rendezvousing!!!

Registration, Cost and Donations

*Rendezvous is offered at no cost to you except for the $5 per person American Canoe Association insurance fee (for non-ACA members) which is passed on to the American Canoe Association. The ACC foots the bill for the entire event and is glad to do so. But, if you would like to contribute something to help defray expenses we would be grateful for your help. The form is at the bottom, so just follow the prompts to show your ACC a little love. Thanks!*

      Camp Couchdale Information

        • No pets.
        • Fires must be contained in a fire pan.
        • Free Camping. Plenty of room for hammock and tent camping, but limited RV space and no hook-ups. If you prefer camping in your RV or camper I highly recommend Lake Catherine State Park literally a few miles down the road. It's one of our finest state parks so don't wait too long to make reservations. Arrangements can also be made at Catherine's Landing; not quite as close but also very nice. RVs will be admitted to Couchdale provided there is space. If you'd like to bring yours please contact the Rendezvous coordinator deucecoop@att.net beforehand to discuss. If you fail to make arrangements we will do our best to accommodate you but cannot guarantee a spot. The folks at the registration table can direct you to the quiet and not so quiet areas.
        • Quiet hours are from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
        • Alcohol is fine in moderation, but please no glass.
        • Bunks are available in the lodges for $30 a night. Register here to reserve a bunk.

There will be lots to see and do, but here are some highlights.

Feel free to bring your own food for breakfast/lunch. Dinner will be as follows:

          ArkLaTex Chapter Bayou Buffet

Once again the ArkLaTex Chapter will be serving a nice taste of the bayou with Cajun red beans and rice on Friday night from 6 - 8 p.m. Cost is $10.00 per person and includes salad and bread along with water or tea.

          Aluminum Chef Battle

          Stay tuned for details.

          Potluck Saturday 6pm

This will be the only opportunity for us all to be together so don't miss it, and plan to bring something made with love. This will also be your opportunity to show off your culinary chops so please bring something creative to share.

          Boat Raffle

A big thanks this year to our good friends who are providing the club with a boat to raffle off to a lucky rendezvouser. Will it be you? Not only does every ticket you buy get you one step closer to a sweet boat, but every penny of your entry fee goes to the ACC Instructor Education Fund, so you can't lose even if you, well, lose. Tickets will be available at the entry gate.

          Silent Auction

This year's silent auction promises to be the biggest and best yet, and that's good because The Natural State needs our help more than ever. Our illustrious chair Bob Allen along with the help of some long time leaders has been working harder than ever to ensure we can continue to enjoy clean water and air but the fight's not easy or cheap. It's worth every penny, but please do your part to help replenish this critical resource. Bring your wallet and your generous heart and plan to bid like a champion, and if you have ideas for things that would be good auction items please let us know. Feel free to reach out to me at deucecoop@att.net.

          Canoe Jousting Under the Lights

Saturday night, our main event will be Canoe Jousting! What's Canoe Jousting? I'm glad you asked. Click and read http://forums.arkansascanoeclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26180  my friend, then get to work on procuring what and who you need, and remember, style points count!

          Saturday Night Entertainment!

The Cons of Formant, a fantastic band out of Little Rock, has generously agreed to play a show for us! Starting after Canoe Jousting ends, they’ll play till quiet time! Check them out ahead of time here: https://www.reverbnation.com/theconsofformant

          Roll Clinics

The Roll Clinic will be back and headed up by the Kayakmamma herself, the lovely and talented Lorraine McPhee. She and others from her chapter will be on hand to help you get or fine tune your roll, so bring your boat, gear and good attitude to make the most of this opportunity. Saturday 8am

Down River Floats, Rockport Play Time, and Hometown Throwdown

Thanks to the cooperation of Entergy and Ted Smethers we have (tentatively) scheduled a nine-hour release for both Saturday and Sunday. Look for impromptu down river trips happening and look for the water to be turned on at the dam around 6 a.m. and at the ledge from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.-ish both days. Due to popular demand the sixth annual Hometown Throwdown series sponsored by World Kayak http://worldkayak.com/ will culminate on Rendezvous weekend. Trust me. You don't want to miss the final Hometown Throwdown of the year. Check at the gate for specifics as this event is a BLAST!!!

Vendors, Sponsors, & Used Gear Exchange

This year, our sponsors will have booth space available in the usual spot. If you don't know where that is don't fret. It's easy to find and you can ask anyone if you need directions. Be sure to visit Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters, Ozark Mountain Trading Company and our other gracious sponsors for some great deals over the weekend. We'll also have space for gear swapping, so bring your stuff to sell and some cash to buy!

As usual all events are subject to change, usually in the form of an addition to the schedule. A bunch of folks are hard at it to make this the best 'Vous yet, so don't miss out.

And as always, COME EARLY STAY LATE!
